Hi Hawaii : Here and Happy

(1)Here is the first post of my Hawaii series. These posts are going to be quite short, considering I am going to try my hand at vlogging, but here is the first update anyway.

Boxing Day we were off, leaving Calgary and its surprisingly warm weather behind. The flight was normal and boring, except for the occasional, unintentional elbow to my side from my mother sitting beside me. Here is another secret of mine: I love turbulence. Halfway through the flight we experienced quite a bit of it and although my dad worried the wings of the plane were going to fall off, I loved every minute of it. Am I weird? I like my stomach doing flip flops and it reminded me a little like being on a wooden roller-coaster. When the turbulence ended, I was actually disappointed.

When we finally arrived in Lihue, after reading half of the book, A House in the Sky (a must read!), it was dark and humid, but I already knew I was going to fall in love with this island. After an hour drive to the house involving a quick stop to Taco Bell to stuff our faces with burritos at a picnic table outside of Safeway, I toured the house and went straight to bed. My brother woke me up with excitement in his voice about the view from our balcony. We were in a tropical paradise.

Today was a day to relax and see a little bit of the island. My dad was shocked when I suggested we do a little bit of shopping, which we did do after walking along the beach just outside our house. As I looked for things for Thailand (only ending up buying a hat), my sister, with her long blonde hair, was getting a number from a local. We spent most of the day shopping, noticing American’s aren’t as nice as us Canadians because we were saying sorry way too often, and then headed to Tunnels Beach for a bit of cave exploring, surfer sighting, and coconut eating.

I’ve been taking lots of video, and hopefully more photos. But here are a couple photos of the island. FYI, this is where Jurassic Park was filmed and you can see why in the photo above.
